Less spin; more facts — PLEASE Friday, Nov 25 2005

Here’s what Mayor Nagin said:
[E]lectricity has returned to almost 75 per cent of the city [of New Orleans].” The Jamaica Observer, November 20, 2005.
Here’s reality:
Managers of the city’s power monopoly, Entergy New Orleans, say it could take a year or more to restore their network of transmission lines, substations and feeder wires to the level of reliability that existed before the storm.
Of the 23 electricity substations in the city, six remain down and the other 17 are operating at partial capacity, [Rod West, Entergy’s regional manager for electric distribution] said.

For a realistic picture about utilities in New Orleans go here.
Perhaps the reason for the mayor’s lack of knowledge about what is going on in his city is due to his chronic absence from our city.
What the residents of New Orleans need is less spin and more facts.
