They missed one! Thursday, Dec 28 2006

On the front page of the Hammond Daily Star was a story about the expansion of the Kentwood Water Plant in Tangipahoa Parish. The additional manufacturing capacity will allow the company to expand its marketing area into Texas. It will also create new jobs.

That’s great news!

Here’s the strange part. There’s been no announcement of this plant expansion by Governor Blanco and her Economic Guru Mike Olivier. How they let this good economic news get into the media without them taking credit for it is shocking. It’s not too late, if they hurry, they can come for the ground-breaking photo op with their gold shovels and hard hats.

Because of this oversight, I fear that LA jobs will be lost. Most likely heads will roll in the Governor and LED press rooms.

Mike Olivier’s star becomes more tarnished Wednesday, Dec 27 2006

Why is this man smiling?

Another Mike Olivier project bites the dust. (See story here.) Bringing the Oreck plant to Mississippi was the shining star in Mike Olivier’s crown when he was doing economic development in Mississippi. Now the plant has been lost to Tennessee.

Why is it that LA hired Olivier to do economic development in LA? What has he done? Why didn’t he lure the plant back to LA where the company’s headquarters is located?

North LA has little exposure to hurricanes.

What does North LA have that TN doesn’t have? HIGH TAXES, GOVERNMENT RED TAPE AND A GOVERNOR WHO RECEIVED AN “F” IN FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Nuff said!

Thanks to Governor Blanco! Friday, Dec 22 2006

Governor Blanco has signed into law HB 120 which provides a rebateable state tax credit to offset surcharges (taxes) levied by Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation to pay off its billion dollar debt on all private as well as Citizens’ insurance policies. This tax relief applies to individuals and businesses.

After threatening to veto any tax breaks if she wasn’t allowed to give pay raises to public employees, she has given hundreds of thousands of LA citizens and businesses an early Christmas present.

Public Affairs Research Council (PAR) called the tax break “wasteful” and belittled the amount of the tax break. However, it is a more valuable gift than most in LA will receive from Santa Claus.

HB 120 is the gift that keeps on giving. As long as the surcharge/tax for the debt is levied the credit will be granted each year.

Thank you, Governor Blanco!
