Since his appointment as the “Recovery Czar of New Orleans,” I have been somewhat skeptical that Dr. Ed Blakely was going to deliver on his promises. Dr. Blakely promised, as a sign of progress in his efforts, “cranes would be in the air” by September.

Not only are the cranes are in the air, but they are ahead of schedule. Above is a recent picture of one of the cranes in the French Quarter.

You can’t please everybody

Despite the cranes, as promised by Dr. Blakely, everyone in New Orleans is not happy about their appearance. According to one resident, the cranes are eating the fish in the outdoor ponds in the French Quarter and Marigny.

To paraphrase an old saying: “You can’t have your progress and fish too.”
