That was then:
[State Insurance Commissioner Jim] Donelon has said he does not think anyone committed fraud or theft at Citizens and that he has no evidence of impropriety. Times Picayune, April 4, 2007
This is now:
Note the story here. Apparently, Donelon has a high threshold for “impropriety.” As to the fraud or theft, Donelon may be on sound ground, at least as long as the financial records are unavailable. For certain, we won’t know one way or the other until after Donelon is safely reelected this fall for a full 4-year term.
A bit late
Finally, the last week of the session after working 31/2 days a week, the leges are finally getting around to looking into the problem of the Citizens Fund.
Wonder when they will get around to addressing the Road Home Program?
They have spent all the state funds that could have been used to address any financial problems with either program. Maybe the next governor and lege can get Congress to bail us out. Then perhaps not.
Perhaps, the next administration will have a Special Session in January, 2008 to increase our taxes. Hopefully, they will find a way to tax all the people who have left and are leaving the state. It will be very expensive on those that remain.
