Quote of the day Friday, Aug 31 2007

Many of the people were not aware that they were registered to vote elsewhere and intend to return to Louisiana, said [NAACP Legal]defense fund attorney Kristen Clarke. Times Picayune, August 31, 2007

The above quote of the day comes from a story about a lawsuit filed against a recent Louisiana voter purge.

How does one not know they are registered to vote somewhere? How did it happen? Are they suffering amnesia brought on some type of post-stress disorder? Were they kidnapped by space aliens?

I can’t wait to see the affidavits in the lawsuit. “After being duly sworn and disposed, I hereby certify that I was unaware that I was registered to vote in the state of _______.”

Any person who doesn’t know the state in which they registered to vote is simply too dumb to vote ANYWHERE.

Nagin: Bush “can’t handle it.” Thursday, Aug 30 2007

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, in an interview Wednesday morning on the nationally-syndicated radio show hosted by Tom Joyner, questions President Bush’s ability to help New Orleans recover.

“Maybe this is bigger than he as President can handle,” Nagin said. “I don’t know if he can handle this. I’ve seen this for
2 years - for 2 years I’ve seen this dance.” The Mayor that Bush is “struggling with this whole Katrina thing.”

Because he’s an expert on not handling the Katrina thing, I’ll have to take the mayor’s word for it.

Nagin goes on to say:

“But I am still disappointed that his [Bush's] country has not stepped forward and helped this community like it should have….” (emphasis mine)

I often joke about the fact the LA is not part of America. However, I didn’t know that Nagin that actually believed it.

An honest politician Tuesday, Aug 28 2007

The quotes below are from a story in Friday’s Houma paper about former State Rep. Mitch Theriot switching from the “D” to “R” label before running for an open lege seat:

“This is not philosophical,” Theriot said. “My philosophies are the same. It looked like to me that the Democratic Party wasn’t going to get involved in this race again. I came close in 2003 and I could have won it with a little help from the party.”

It’s all about winning. Kudos to Mitch for honesty.

QUERY: If one has philosophies about being a lege as opposed to a philosophy, isn’t that the same as standing for nothing in particular?
