How about the living? Friday, Sep 28 2007

According to a report on Monday on WVUE-TV Channel 8 in New Orleans:
[NOPD]Deputy Police Chief Marlon Defillo says the donation [by State Sen. Ann Duplessis and the District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation] leaves only 109 officers working the streets without the potentially life saving vests. He expects the department to have enough funds next month to purchase vests for them.
The City Council just appropriated over a million dollars to build a monument to those who died as a result of the flooding caused by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Yet, over two years following the disasters, there are still 109 NOPD officers without bullet-proof vests?
There is little wonder that the NOPD is having a problem keeping and recruiting officers. The city places a higher priority on the dead than the living.
