New Orleans has now recorded at least its 193rd 194th murder of the year.

The latest murder occurred late Friday night in eastern New Orleans. It was the second murder on Friday early this (Monday) morning in Algiers.

NOPD Superintendent Warren Riley in lieu of accepting responsibility for the rise of violent crime continues to make excuses to deflect attention from his inability. He no longer has District Attorney Eddie Jordan to point his finger toward.

Riley now attempts to rationalize the rise of violent crime by saying it should be viewed on a per capita rate. I seriously doubt that will be of comfort to the victims of crime, the relatives of the dead or those in New Orleans who live in fear.

Riley, when whining about the lack of manpower never acknowledges the 300 National Guard soldiers deployed in New Orleans and the extra 50 State Troopers assisting the NOPD. Never asked of Riley is how the per capita number of law enforcement personnel in New Orleans compares to other cities of comparable size.

Still no word on what Dr. Lee P. Brown determined in his study of the NOPD. Either the recommendations of Brown have not been implemented or if implemented have shown little effect on the rise of crime.

More as it happens. And it will.
