Another peek inside the State Boudin Plant Monday, May 19 2008

WARNING: Do not read the list right after eating!!!

To see a list of local and NGO capital (”bricks and mortar”)projects in HB 2 of the 2008 Regular Session go here.

Instead of using the billions of dollars in surplus cash for these projects, the state of Louisiana will BORROW (probably, 30-year bonds) money to fund them. Total is $324,945,000.00! Plus interest!!

Only those projects with funding in PRIORITY ONE of the Capital Outlay Budget are listed (To the extent possible, by parish).

This funding is in addition to the funding for local and NGOs in HB 1 (State Operating Budget).

On Thursday, HB 2 passed the House 102-0 and is now in the Senate for consideration and additions.

LA must lead the nation in convention/museum/civic/tourist/municipal complex/community/multi-purpose/multi-cultural centers per capita.

If your social, civic or whatever club or favorite charity needs a new building, repairs to an old building, etc. simply contact your local lege who can have your request processed it in the State Boudin Plant a.k.a. the lege process.

Slush Funds update Friday, May 16 2008

Thursday, the State Operating Budget ( HB1) was approved by the LA House of Representatives.

Slush protected

An effort was made by Rep. Joseph Lopinto, R-Metairie, to remove all the slush funds/NGOs from the budget. His amendment was defeated by a vote of 19 YEAS, 80 NAYS and 5 Absent. A YEA vote is to REMOVE the slush funds and NAY vote is to KEEP the slush funds.

To see how your lege voted go here: http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/streamdocument.asp?did=488884

To see a list of the current slush/NGOs in the operating budget go here: http://forgotston.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/hb-1-slush.doc

You ain’t seen nothing yet

There’s more to come. Not only will the Senate add more slush/NGOs to the Operating Budget, but there is more non-state/slush/NGOs in the Capital Outlay Budget ( HB2) that was also approved yesterday by the House.

Wait until you see what is being built with your tax dollars. There’s 57 pages of them listed!

Lege priorities

It is important to remember your lege’s priorities. Governor Jindal and the leges can’t give us an income tax break this year, but they can fund, this year, local pork barrel projects and pay raises for everyone who works for government.

Didya know? Monday, May 12 2008

For parliamentary correctness sake, whenever, a LA lege wants to make a point on the House or Senate floor, but does not have the floor, they make a statement to the one that does have the floor that ends with “Didya know?”

Didya know?

The President of the United States is paid $400,000 per year.

The Vice President of the United States is paid $221,100 per year. (That would be a pay raise for Governor Jindal.)

The Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court is paid $217,400 per year.

U.S. Cabinet Secretaries are paid $191,300 per year.

Didya also know?

The LA Secretary of Education’s proposed compensation is $355,611 per year. (His base salary would be $271,611.)

The LA Secretary of Economic Development’s proposed salary is $320,000 per year.

The LA Deputy Secretary of Economic Development’s proposed salary is $230,000.

What’s wrong with this picture?
