Does Bobby have a clue? Monday, Jul 14 2008

From an article in the Lafayette Daily Advertiser on July 11:

When a reporter asked Jindal if he realized Ethics Board members said their resignations stemmed from the changes in their authority, not the disclosure laws, Jindal replied, “We had many board members resign on the day that I signed the bill that requires disclosure from these boards. People are certainly free to draw their own conclusions.” (emphasis mine)

Thanks, I will.

The bill that required financial disclosure by members of the Ethics Board was HB 1 of the 2008 1st Special Session. The legislation was signed on March 3, 2008. That was at least 3 months before the resignations of most of the Ethics Board members. Some of the disclosure requirements were lessened during the 2008 Regular Session, but those for the Ethics Board remain identical to those he signed on March 3.

The only conclusion that I can draw from Bobby’s statement is he doesn’t have a clue what he is saying.

Here’s what you are paying for…. Friday, Jul 11 2008

The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House are paid much more than the rank-and-file members of the leges.

Under the pay raise the leges gave themselves, the two positions would pay approximately $100,000 a year each, plus perks.

To see why they deserve more money go here: http://www.ncsl.org/annualmeeting/player.swf

Leges are slow learners Thursday, Jul 10 2008

As I feared the leges didn’t learn much from the public uproar over them voting themselves an obscene pay raise.

Here’s some excerpts from a story in the Daily Monopoly:

Mark Jaunet of Algiers asked [Speaker Jim] Tucker and [Rep. Jeff] Arnold what they learned from the process, if they had to do it all over again.

Arnold responded: “I would go to the governor and say, ‘Give us a number you can live with. You give us the bill, and we’ll run with.’ ”

To all the leges:
The next time you want something for yourself, especially money, ask your boss. In case you haven’t read the state constitution lately that’s not Bobby Jindal. Your boss is the citizens of LA.
