Radio host Griffon quits Republicans

Conservative talk show host Moon Griffon, of Monroe, who has a statewide radio audience, had spent much of 2007 supporting the gubernatorial campaign of Gov. Bobby Jindal. But last week, Griffon said in an interview that he had quit the Republican Party and re-registered as a “no party” voter.

“My frustration with Bobby Jindal is that he is not being a conservative,” Griffon said. Jindal allowed substantial pay raises for state legislators until the public, being led in large part by talk show hosts such as Griffon, complained so loudly, the governor reversed his course.

Another example of Jindal skewing off the conservative line, Griffon said, came when the governor was late to join a move to change the so-called Stelly tax brackets, which led to tax reduction for wealthier taxpayers.

“Conservatives are mad as hell and they’re not taking it anymore,” Griffon said.
