Where’s the plan? Tuesday, Jan 6 2009

There’s a very interesting article by Cain Burdeau of the Associated Press about Louisiana being last in population growth. ( See story here.)
In the story Bobby Jindal says: “I got into politics because I was tired of seeing so many people leave our state,” …. “We absolutely have to change this.”
It shouldn’t have taken much research to recognize this problem since Bobby out-migrated for college and for job opportunities.
To quote Yogi Berra: “You can observe a lot just by watching.”
Having known of the problem firsthand for almost 20 years, Bobby’s statements make one wonder why he has done nothing to address out-migration problem since 1996 when he first became a high-ranking public servant (and later as an elected official) in our state.
Then there are the words of wisdom from our ethically-challenged, head of economic development, Stephen Moret: “When the economy does well we’re going to have net population in-migration and have strong population growth, ….”
In other words, when things are good, things will be good.
It took the highest paid cabinet secretary in the state with degrees from LSU and Harvard to make that observation?
Enough with the campaign rhetoric and platitudes! Where’s the plan?
