When running for governor in 2007 Bobby Jindal made the following statements about transparency in government:
Provide citizens on-line, easy-to-understand access to all sectors of state government. We should upgrade Louisiana’s sunshine laws to improve access to public records and meetings by expanding Internet-based access to filings, reports, and announcements in all departments. A recent story in the Monroe newspaper reports that Jindal did just the opposite for his own office. Story here (with comments by yours truly).
According to the story:
While Gov. Bobby Jindal campaigned on and regularly promotes transparency in government at all levels, the same standards do not apply to his office.
Getting what one would think should be public records from the governor’s office is virtually impossible under state law – a law that earns Louisiana a national survey’s ranking of worst in the nation for access to the governor’s records.
To quote Bobby Jindal: “It’s time to match action to our rhetoric.”
It’s time to hold Bobby accountable.
