On Tuesday ( Story here.), the State Streamlining Commission approved a recommendation to the governor and leges that they reduce expenditure in next fiscal year’s budget by 2% or $124 Million.
On Monday, Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis said that the state would have a revenue shortfall of $1Billion for next fiscal year. ( Story here.)
The state constitution prohibits spending more state revenues than the state is estimated to receive.
In other words, the Streamlining Commission is recommending that the governor and the leges not spend $124 Million of the $1 Billion it will not have.
Absolutely genius!
