It has just been brought to my attention that, in keeping with the long-standing Louisiana practice started by former U.S. Senator John Breaux, Secretary of State Jay Dardenne has broken his silence and announced that he will NOT run for the U.S. Senate this fall.

I had hoped not to be put in this position again. Frankly, I thought the practice of announcing what one was NOT going to do would stop.

The uncontrollable laughter at such announcements is a safety concern to those who hear them while driving motor vehicles and heavy equipment.

However, Mr. Dardenne seems insistent on keeping this silly and dangerous practice alive.

Therefore, after very little consideration and no thanks to my family and so-called friends not urging me to run, I am officially NOT running for the U.S. Senate this fall.

I will be NOT available for media interviews on this very unimportant matter.

Please drive carefully.
