Jindal breaks another promise Monday, May 24 2010

Bobby Jindal - Just another politician
When the “Roads Scholar” was running for governor in 2007 he made this promise:
Require ALL non-governmental entities seeking state grants to publicly file on-line specific reports detailing how their organization is structured, any relationships to elected officials or their families, and how state money would be used. Any group asking the state government for taxpayer dollars must fully explain their organization and detail their spending intentions.
That was then.
On Wednesday, “The Scholar” signed into law HB 997 as Act 10 of the 2010 Regular Session.
HB 997 exempts certain non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from the disclosure requirements he promised.
This is just the beginning of watering-down of the disclosure requirements for NGOs. We will not know which leges or other public officials are affiliated with or benefiting from the expenditure of our tax dollars.
Previously, these NGOs were not subject to any public scrutiny. The Open Meetings and Public Records Laws don’t apply to them. Now there is zero disclosure for these private entities who receive and spend taxpayer dollars.
The campaign promise above is just another example of Bobby Jindal saying one thing to get elected and once elected doing something different.
