For better or for worse?

Since the word leaked out that Times Picayune newspaper in New Orleans would only be printed 3 days a week starting this October, there has been a lot scrambling to do damage control at the paper.

Management at the TP has been bragging about its “new and improved” website that will provide breaking news 24/7.

In other words, we should expect to be provided more news and faster.

That all sounds good.

However, here is a recent example of how well the “new and improved” 24/7 news format at the TP is working:

On July 26, 2012, at 3:28 PM, Gambit broke the story about State Rep. Helena Moreno considering a run for the City Council District B seat. Story here.

On August 4, 2012 at 1:04 PM, The Uptown Messenger reported that Moreno has decided not to run for the District B seat. Story here.

On August 4, 2012 at 7:30 PM, the Times Picayune reported that Moreno was considering a run for District B seat. Story here.

The “new and improved” and still daily TP reported the story nine days after it was reported by the weekly Gambit newspaper. Worse, by the time it was reported by the TP, it was not only old news, but not even as up-to-date as the digital-only newspaper The Uptown Messenger.

Are we to believe the “new and improved” TP that we are told of or what we see with our own eyes?
