It’s what I say it is

A public official following the law should be a given. It is, in most places in America.

However, similar to Humpty Dumpty in Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass,” in Louisiana the law is whatever Bobby Jindal determines it is at the time.

On Tuesday there was a story in Baton Rouge paper about State Treasurer John Kennedy refusing to accept Team Jindal’s interpretation of the Law. Kennedy has decided to follow the law as it is written and intended.

Under Jindal’s interpretation of the law more one-time money will be used for recurring expenses. His reading is based primarily on the Machiavellian idea that the end justifies the means.

Such an interpretation not only violates the spirit and letter of the law, but is fiscally-irresponsible.

Kudos to Kennedy for following the law and being fiscally-responsible.
